Don Klein, President of Houston-based homebuilder Chesmar Homes, was awarded the 2009 Humanitarian of the Year award by the Greater Houston Builders Association Sales and Marketing Council. The award was presented to Klein at the Houston’s Best Awards ceremony Saturday night at the House of Blues.

“He didn’t know he had been nominated so it was a great surprise,” says Scott Merovitch, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Chesmar Homes. “It’s wonderful to see him recognized for all of the marvelous things he does in the community.”

The GHBA Benefit Home Project, which supports Texas Children’s Cancer Center, Alzheimer Association and HomeAid Houston, has seen significant and exciting changes since Don Klein and Chesmar’s arrival. Klein is also involved in Mayor White’s Houston Hope-LARA Project constructing five affordable homes in Acres Homes. The project is committed to improve blighted communities by offering down payment assistance programs to subsidized renters. Additionaliy, he has participated and solicited contributions for countless charities including the GHBA Scholarship Fund, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the MS150 in which he rides with his team every year.

“Don recently agreed to partner with the Texas Children’s Hospital Heal Sick Children campaign to donate a portion of the proceeds from each closed home from September through November to the cause,” said Donna Newcomb, Marketing Director for Chesmar. “We Chesmar associates are very proud of his benevolence!”
