Groundbreaking for Marine Cpl Raul Olivares will break ground on a new Chesmar Home in Towne Lake Community for wounded Marine, Cpl Raul Olivares, his wife and 3 children. The groundbreaking will symbolize the start of a new chapter in Raul’s life as he continues to rebuild his life.

Cpl Olivares graduated from Eagle Pass High School and joined the Marines. At 15, he thought of dropping out of high school and his mom took him to the watermelon fields and showed him a day of hard labor…he began to value education and think about his future. He embraced the Marines where he learned the importance of discipline, courage, honor, and commitment.

Cpl Olivares and his Marine platoon were deployed to a very hostile area in Afghanistan. They took a helicopter to the forward operating base to begin patrolling the region and within 12 days they accomplished their mission of establishing two additional FOB’s. On June 18, 2010 he was in a convoy on the way back to the main operating base when he was hit by an IED. He was thrust from his gunner position, one of his Marines was killed and 3 others wounded. The IED explosion broke both of Raul’s legs and the shrapnel was causing him to bleed out. One of his Marines stabilized him for transport. After weeks of countless surgeries, the surgeons were able to save his legs. Both legs are considered limb salvage and may still need to be amputated in the future.

He and his wife Lesley have 3 children. And Raul looks forward to graduating from college and owning his own business.

This is the 6th home Texas based has partnered with Chesmar Homes to build. Chesmar homes has worked with to design a home that will meet this family’s needs as they rebuild their lives. This home will include 4 bedrooms, 2 ½ baths. Raul spends 50% of his time at home in his wheelchair so the doors will be wider, and his bathroom will include a roll in shower and other safety features.
